A minute with MGI

What skills will be in demand in the workplace by 2030? MGI partner Susan Lund describes how automation and AI will accelerate the technological skills and social and emotional and skills to meet increasingly digital job requirements. Meanwhile some skills, including physical and manual skills, will decline in demand.

A new discussion paper from the McKinsey Global Institute, “Skill shift: Automation and the future of the workforce,” quantifies time spent on 25 core workplace skills today and in the future for the US and five European countries. The research uncovered that through 2030, the time spent using technological skills will increase by 55 percent, with the fastest rise in the need for advanced IT and programming skills.
