Why diversity and inclusion is more than someone’s job title

Video: Why diversity and inclusion is more than someone’s job title

Stop feeling awkward around disabled people and guilty about your privilege, Shani Dhanda tells us, instead it’s time for all of us to do the work and help create an inclusive society.

In this tour de force of a talk, disability rights activist Shani explains that it’s not good enough that marginalised and disabled folks are the ones who have to campaign for change to remove systemic barriers they did not put in place. Not forgetting the irony that it’s everyone else that ends up being uncomfortable when marginalised folks like Shani enter conversations to create equitable change.

Sharing her own personal journey, Shani explains how to create a more inclusive world: by using your privilege for good. Because we all have privilege - whether you like it or not - and that means we have the power to create an inclusive society with every decision we make. Shani Dhanda is a multi-award-winning disability specialist and social entrepreneur listed as one of the UK's most influential disabled people and BBC's 100 Women 2020. She brings the voices of disabled people to all her work - whether that’s with business, government or broader society - and integrates inclusion into their ways of working. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
